Welp, I’m sitting in a laundromat in a Southern California KOA.
Washing some of the clothes we’ll be using this week and some I’ll want to change into on Friday. Tuesday we get on the Mt. Whitney trail. We did all our food prep tonight and are charging up a lot of our electronics.
Today was a short drive gone long. 4.5 hours from Vegas turned into almost 7 because well, we found a Del Taco first of all. Then we got stuck in a terrible stop and go work zone in 100+ degree weather that we sat in for 45 minutes. But, regardless of the unplanned long breaks today we were completely overwhelmed by the absolute beauty that is the Sierra Nevada.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. We haven’t even seen the big boy mountains yet.
Tomorrow we’re going to drop our camper off and keep it stored for the week, pick up our Whitney permits and then tomorrow and Monday we’ll be tent camping at Onion Valley at 9,200ft.
Monday morning we’ll hike to Kearsarge Pass at 11,709ft to acclimate then sleep low again. I have great faith in our acclimatization schedule. We’ll be sleeping at 10,400 at Outpost Camp Tuesday, then Wednesday night Trail Camp is 12,000. Thursday is the big day. I am feeling so many things.
I am not sure about cell service from tomorrow on out so this may be my last post until Friday.
So! If you don’t see anything from us between now and then, wish us luck. I’m sure we will have some service even if it’s spotty so I’ll try to check in (at least with our families!)
Eek! It’s getting all kinds of real, people.
